Gait Analysis

Gait analysis is a detailed assessment of how your body moves during walking and running. It looks at how your feet, ankles, knees, and hips work together, as well as how forces are distributed through your body during movement.

At The Foot Lab Glossop, we combine clinical assessment with visual and video analysis, alongside pressure plate technology, to give a clear picture of how you move. This allows us to identify patterns that may not be obvious during a standard examination.

By understanding your gait, we can identify inefficiencies, compensations, and areas of overload that may be contributing to pain or limiting performance.

Gait analysis is particularly useful for identifying the causes of foot pain, including conditions such as heel pain and plantar fasciitis, especially when symptoms are linked to walking or running.

It also plays an important role in assessing issues such as overpronation, high arches, and abnormal loading patterns that can affect the foot and ankle. Many patients benefit from gait analysis when dealing with forefoot conditions such as metatarsalgia or nerve-related pain like Morton’s neuroma.

Beyond the foot, abnormal gait patterns can contribute to ankle pain, Achilles tendinopathy, and lower leg conditions such as shin splints. They are also closely linked to knee, hip, and lower back pain, particularly where movement efficiency is reduced.
