Morton's Neuroma Treatment in Glossop — your questions answered.
Common questions about morton's neuroma at The Foot Lab, Glossop — causes, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment options.
Morton’s neuroma, also known as an interdigital neuroma, is a condition where a nerve between the toes becomes irritated and thickened. It most commonly occurs between the third and fourth toes and is often linked to increased pressure in the forefoot.
Although referred to as a neuroma, it is not a tumour, but rather a response to repeated compression or irritation of the nerve.
Symptoms can vary but are often distinctive. Common signs include:
Burning pain in the forefoot
Sharp or shooting discomfort when walking
Tingling or numbness in the toes
A sensation of a lump or pebble under the foot
Pain that worsens in tight or narrow footwear
Relief when removing shoes or resting
Symptoms may come and go initially but can become more persistent over time.
Morton’s neuroma is typically caused by increased pressure on the nerve between the toes. Contributing factors may include:
Tight or narrow footwear compressing the forefoot
High-impact activities that increase forefoot load
Poor foot mechanics affecting weight distribution
Repetitive stress through the ball of the foot
Structural foot changes that increase nerve irritation
In many cases, a combination of these factors leads to ongoing symptoms.
You should consider seeking professional advice if:
You experience burning or tingling in the forefoot
Pain is affecting your ability to walk comfortably
Symptoms worsen in certain footwear
Discomfort is becoming more frequent or persistent
Self-care measures are not improving symptoms
Early diagnosis can help reduce nerve irritation and prevent symptoms from progressing.
At The Foot Lab in Glossop, we carry out a comprehensive clinical assessment to confirm whether your symptoms are consistent with Morton’s neuroma.
Your appointment may include:
Examination of the forefoot and toe spaces
Assessment of areas of tenderness and nerve irritation
Evaluation of foot posture and alignment
Observation of walking patterns through gait analysis
Discussion of footwear and activity levels
A detailed biomechanical assessment, including both weight-bearing and non-weight-bearing analysis, may be recommended to understand how pressure is distributed across your foot.
All care follows NICE guidance, Royal College of Podiatry standards, and HCPC professional regulations.
Treatment focuses on reducing pressure on the affected nerve and improving overall foot function.
Your treatment plan may include:
Advice on footwear to reduce compression of the forefoot
Orthotic insoles prescribed following a biomechanical assessment
Modifications to reduce pressure during walking
Targeted exercises where appropriate
Management of contributing forefoot conditions
Addressing how your foot loads during movement through gait analysis is often key to reducing symptoms and preventing recurrence.

I received great service throughout my time with The Foot Lab for my ingrown toenail. Claire was the podiatrist that looked after me during my treatment here and she did a great job with everything from the consult up until the aftercare following my toenail surgery.
Claire and the team are always friendly and the service is always top notch!
Claire recently did a nail surgery for me and kept me informed the whole way through as well as giving great aftercare whenever I have questions or need advice.
Would throughly recommend
I had a nail surgery here recently and I couldn't ask for a better experience. No pain throughout and left me pain free. Clare the surgeon was great, and i would 100% recommend to anyone having the surgery.
I would 100% recommend The Foot Lab. I came in with an issue with my toe. After an initial appointment with James who put me at ease and helped figure out a plan, I was back in a week later for toenail surgery.
Discovered podiatry late in life.
Fab service here and I would recommend it to anyone.
My regular podiatrist is Claire and she is a star!
Excellent service from the initial appointment and recommended treatment to the comprehensive follow through. Gemma explained everything thoroughly and took time to walk me through the problem and the approach to treating. My pain is gone and I'm confident in what I need to do to strengthen my foot and be in a good position going forward.
Claire has gone above and beyond treating my son - initial consultation, toe surgery and superb after care: Expert care from start to finish. Absolutely exceptional. Thank you so much.
I have been using the footlab for a number of years now and I couldn't recomend it more!! I have really dry hard skin which results in pain when walking but with the help from Claire my feet feel so light and smooth. 5 star service every time!!
Really love coming here, and have for years! I see Claire and can't recommend her enough. Always lovely and my feet feel fantastic afterwards.
Claire worked wonders with my feet and made me feel human again, not an easy task I can assure you when I spend 12 hours plus a day in work boots. The service is second to none with great conversation which makes the time fly by all too quickly. Looking forward to my next appointment. 10/10
I've been a regular here for about eight months, visiting every four weeks or so, and it's become my go-to podiatry clinic after trying others that didn't quite meet my expectations. I can be quite particular and value attention to detail, so finding the right practitioner and place takes time. Gemma and her team have truly earned my trust - they're professional, attentive, and always handle any concerns with politeness, efficiency, and a reassuring level of care.
I have been seeing Claire to help me and she is fantastic! Claire makes you feel so comfortable whilst your having any procedure done! The receptionist staff are so lovely and welcoming too! I'd highly recommend the foot lab to anyone!
Gemma and the team are absolutely brilliant. From making appointments to having treatments the whole process is lovely. Everyone is professional and kind . I have been a customer a while now and cannot recommend enough. I love my visits xx
We've been going to the Footlab for years as a family, my parents even drive down from Scotland to go for treatment. They recently helped us out massively with an injured toenail my autistic son had which prevented him from having major surgery. We are lucky to have such a highly qualified, award winning team in our little town. Amazing care. Dawn
Gemma has been my podiatrist for the last 5 years; she is highly professional, courteous and fastidious in all her work. During this period, Gemma has improved the health/condition of my feet. I would have no hesitation in recommending Gemma (and her colleagues) to anyone who needs specialist first class podiatry care.
I first went to the Footlab a few years ago, as I had lower back pain (I know not my feet)!. However, it turned out that my feet were turning in can't remember the exact name for it. I got some made to measure insoles and what a difference I no longer have the back pain. I also go for medical pedicures now and again and it feels like you are floating on air when you are finished.
Everyone is so friendly and nice.
