Foot Pain Treatment in Glossop — your questions answered.
Common questions about foot pain at The Foot Lab, Glossop — causes, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment options.
Foot pain is a broad term that covers discomfort anywhere in the foot, including the heel, arch, ball, or toes. It can develop suddenly due to injury or build gradually over time as a result of strain, poor foot mechanics, or underlying conditions.
Because the foot is made up of many bones, joints, muscles, and ligaments, identifying the exact cause of pain is essential for effective treatment.
Foot pain can present in different ways depending on the underlying cause. Common symptoms include:
Pain when walking or standing
Discomfort in the heel, arch, or forefoot
Pain across the top or bottom of the foot
Stiffness or reduced movement
Tenderness when pressing certain areas
Swelling or inflammation
Some people notice pain first thing in the morning, while others experience worsening symptoms after activity.
There are many possible causes of foot pain, which is why a professional assessment is important. Common causes include:
Plantar fasciitis and plantar heel pain
Heel pain linked to overuse or strain
Midfoot arthritis, including mid tarsal osteoarthritis
Poor foot biomechanics or walking patterns
Overuse injuries from sport or prolonged standing
Ill-fitting or unsupportive footwear
In many cases, foot pain is linked to how the foot functions during movement, which can place excess stress on certain structures.
It is advisable to seek professional advice if:
Pain persists for more than a few days
Walking or daily activities become uncomfortable
Symptoms are worsening over time
You notice swelling, redness, or heat
You have an existing condition such as diabetes
Early assessment can help prevent minor issues from developing into more complex problems.
At The Foot Lab in Glossop, your appointment begins with a comprehensive clinical assessment. Our podiatrists take the time to understand your symptoms, medical history, and activity levels before carrying out a detailed examination of your foot and lower limb.
This may include:
Assessment of foot structure and joint movement
Observation of walking patterns through gait analysis
Identification of pressure points and areas of strain
Discussion of footwear and lifestyle factors
Where appropriate, a biomechanical assessment may be recommended to fully understand how your foot functions during movement.
All assessments follow NICE guidance, Royal College of Podiatry standards, and HCPC professional regulations, ensuring safe and effective care.
Treatment for foot pain is always tailored to the individual and the underlying cause. At The Foot Lab, your podiatrist will explain your diagnosis clearly and recommend a personalised treatment plan.
This may include:
Targeted treatment to reduce pain and inflammation
Advice on footwear and activity modification
Custom exercises to improve strength and flexibility
Orthotic insoles following a biomechanical assessment
Hands-on podiatry care for associated conditions such as corns or callus
If your symptoms are linked to specific conditions, such as plantar fasciitis or heel pain, your treatment plan will reflect this and may include more focused interventions.
Choosing the right clinic is important when dealing with foot pain. At The Foot Lab, you will be treated by experienced, degree-qualified podiatrists who are HCPC registered and trained to diagnose and manage a wide range of lower limb conditions.

I received great service throughout my time with The Foot Lab for my ingrown toenail. Claire was the podiatrist that looked after me during my treatment here and she did a great job with everything from the consult up until the aftercare following my toenail surgery.
Claire and the team are always friendly and the service is always top notch!
Claire recently did a nail surgery for me and kept me informed the whole way through as well as giving great aftercare whenever I have questions or need advice.
Would throughly recommend
I had a nail surgery here recently and I couldn't ask for a better experience. No pain throughout and left me pain free. Clare the surgeon was great, and i would 100% recommend to anyone having the surgery.
I would 100% recommend The Foot Lab. I came in with an issue with my toe. After an initial appointment with James who put me at ease and helped figure out a plan, I was back in a week later for toenail surgery.
Discovered podiatry late in life.
Fab service here and I would recommend it to anyone.
My regular podiatrist is Claire and she is a star!
Excellent service from the initial appointment and recommended treatment to the comprehensive follow through. Gemma explained everything thoroughly and took time to walk me through the problem and the approach to treating. My pain is gone and I'm confident in what I need to do to strengthen my foot and be in a good position going forward.
Claire has gone above and beyond treating my son - initial consultation, toe surgery and superb after care: Expert care from start to finish. Absolutely exceptional. Thank you so much.
I have been using the footlab for a number of years now and I couldn't recomend it more!! I have really dry hard skin which results in pain when walking but with the help from Claire my feet feel so light and smooth. 5 star service every time!!
Really love coming here, and have for years! I see Claire and can't recommend her enough. Always lovely and my feet feel fantastic afterwards.
Claire worked wonders with my feet and made me feel human again, not an easy task I can assure you when I spend 12 hours plus a day in work boots. The service is second to none with great conversation which makes the time fly by all too quickly. Looking forward to my next appointment. 10/10
I've been a regular here for about eight months, visiting every four weeks or so, and it's become my go-to podiatry clinic after trying others that didn't quite meet my expectations. I can be quite particular and value attention to detail, so finding the right practitioner and place takes time. Gemma and her team have truly earned my trust - they're professional, attentive, and always handle any concerns with politeness, efficiency, and a reassuring level of care.
I have been seeing Claire to help me and she is fantastic! Claire makes you feel so comfortable whilst your having any procedure done! The receptionist staff are so lovely and welcoming too! I'd highly recommend the foot lab to anyone!
Gemma and the team are absolutely brilliant. From making appointments to having treatments the whole process is lovely. Everyone is professional and kind . I have been a customer a while now and cannot recommend enough. I love my visits xx
We've been going to the Footlab for years as a family, my parents even drive down from Scotland to go for treatment. They recently helped us out massively with an injured toenail my autistic son had which prevented him from having major surgery. We are lucky to have such a highly qualified, award winning team in our little town. Amazing care. Dawn
Gemma has been my podiatrist for the last 5 years; she is highly professional, courteous and fastidious in all her work. During this period, Gemma has improved the health/condition of my feet. I would have no hesitation in recommending Gemma (and her colleagues) to anyone who needs specialist first class podiatry care.
I first went to the Footlab a few years ago, as I had lower back pain (I know not my feet)!. However, it turned out that my feet were turning in can't remember the exact name for it. I got some made to measure insoles and what a difference I no longer have the back pain. I also go for medical pedicures now and again and it feels like you are floating on air when you are finished.
Everyone is so friendly and nice.
